MATTHEW 25 : 31 – 46
This is a story of the meeting I had with a man I met at the Bridge Ministry in Nashville ..
I had the blessed experience of going on a mission trip to a wonderful ministry on Nashville called ” The Bridge ” this past July . The ministry feeds the homeless but also ministers to them with service and music of praise to the Lord . The ministry prepares a delicious hot meal , provides food to take with them, and a few other necessities. They pass out over 25,000 pounds of food to those in need at the bridge ! Amazing !!!
While we were there we packed and separated food at the warehouse, there were 350 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made and lots of love in those packages. We worked for a few hours , bagging and filling coolers, then headed to the bridge ..
The Bridge is located in downtown Nashville Tn in the lower part of the city . As we pulled up , we saw volunteers working in the heat , setting up the stage and unloading the trucks of food . The chairs were in perfect rows and the trailer of food were ready to serve . Not one complaint of the heat nor one negative word was heard .
The people that came to the bridge were not called homeless, they were called ” guest ” . We served them their food and walked them to the seats they wanted .. There was love and compassion passed with each plate , lots of smiles , lots of handshakes..
The choir sang with orchestrated perfection . The pastor spoke of praise and taught the word to those all around. People went to the front where hands were placed on them and prayers lifted . Many hugs and words of encouragement given .. I know I was blessed at that moment to see all this …. my heart was touched…
After the service , we gathered around tables to pass out socks and undergarments.. It was a very organized transition from meal to passing out needs .
AS I was passing out my end of garments , I meet this man .. He will forever have a place in my heart ..
I feel he was sent to the Bridge for a purpose .. Not because he’s homeless but what he told me .
The preacher for what he is called on the streets , stopped by my bucket to load his backpack up with food that was given to him . (He was extremely happy and nice ) .. I noticed he had a paperbag that had the sandwiches we made that morning. I told him that was going to be the best sandwich ever because we made it .. We laughed at that .. he introduced himself and I did too ..
He looked at me and called me little sister , then started telling me about his night before . He said he woke up every hour on the hour hungry and he didn’t know why . He said he never did that , so he said that last time he got up he asked the Lord why he woke up every hour hungry .
What was he trying to tell him ? Of course I’m all ears and just waiting .I said ” have you heard from the Lord ?” Preacher said yes , he told me to go feed my sheep , they are hungry . I didn’t know what to say. I just kept looking at him . He told me more and began to tell me scripture of feeding the Lord sheep and loving his people.
I about cried because I thought he was sent there to tell me this !!! He had been homeless for 15 yrs but minister’s to many people . He knew the bible and could speak the truth
I told him if I never saw him again , I would see him in Heaven one day and I called him brother .. He said yes !!! I WILL SEE YOU ! I’LL BE CLOSE TO THE THRONE. I get chills thinking of this conversation . Was he sent there by the Lord to speak to those and to me .. to go feed his sheep . . I gave him a bracelet I was wearing and we parted . I didn’t see him anymore .. He vanished..
JOHN 21 : 17
He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Love you me? And he said to him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep.
