42 Cents

This is the story of the 1st Little Free Pantry in our community and how it was blessed by the Lord .

Our ministry was new to the community so we were trying to find where the help was needed most . The focus was to help those in need in our community.  One day one of our sisters in the group saw on a Tv show about little free pantries ..The pantries are little boxes that looked like a large bird houses that people place non perishable food items . If a person is in need they can go to the Little pantry and take some food in a discret way . The purpose is to give those a meal and if someone sees them , they don’t know if they are taking or giving…

We all thought this was a wonderful idea !!! We hoped it would start a trend and they would come up everywhere ..no better way than to have food available 24/7 for those who might have a need .

We asked for help in the making of the pantries . During this time we also got negative feedback. Some were saying people would take advantage or they would be destroyed.  Our reply was if it helped one person or fed on child it was all worth it . Other than that it would be left to the Lord to deal with the other .. We caught a bit of a backlash but we moved forward. We knew this was what we were suppose to do and God placed it on the ministry to do . Our job was to help no judge.

We had a few built and our first was built. It was beautiful!!  It’s home was at a church in between 3 crosses. Our hope was if someone needed food maybe just maybe they would feel the love and see the crosses , reminding them Jesus loved them especially during the hard times or if someone was not a saved person they would be touched by the Spirit .

Well our first few days the pantry was so full with donations . It was filled to the point it could not hold another can . We knew it was being used because there was different food in there , some taken and some given.

One day one of our sisters checked the pantry and she found 42cents . When she told is this we all cried . We could just see someone placing there last bit of change in the pantry for a can .

I am a big number person and just felt in my heart there was a message there  .  I knew God used certain numbers in his word that had meaning .. I started to search and search , what did 42 mean.. I looked in the bible and searched 42 in everyday possible .

I started reading and researching stories in the bible .. It came to me !!!! This was a message from God !! We were suppose to do the pantries no matter what was said .  Why?? Because of this verse that came to me .

The bible verse 42 matched our 42 cents . NOW read the verse and see why .

MARK 12:41 -44

41 Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts.42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in 2 small coins.

43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions.44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

Friends,  I have never experience such a strong feeling of a message from God as this .. It was powerful !!!!  Did a widow place the coins in our pantry or did a mom placed all she had in the box to give back ..

Our hearts were so full and We knew God spoke to us .. After this , pantries were going up everywhere even in different counties … people were getting help!

Message here is , never be discouraged by others especially when you are doing what God has asked you.. keep pushing through and you will see the works of the Lord as we did ..
